Bellydance for Body Shaping: Floorwork – Belly dance fitness workout.

Even a blind squirrel will find a nut if it keeps digging. That’s the way it is with this DVD – every now and then she stumbles on a useful move. This DVD is not for anyone who has taken more than one or two floorwork classes or workshops, nor for any dancers who value isolation. I don’t know why she calls something a chest circle if her hips are moving all over the place. Very disappointing.

As a certified fitness instructor and also belly dance teacher, I can say that this video gives a fitness instructor some new ideas to offer in the aerobics room, which is great. When viewing this video as such, it isn’t too bad, though I will say that it is for the beginner. For those at a higher fitness level and more advanced in their physical abilities, this would not be enough and would have to be greatly modified to suit the needs of an advanced fitness participant. Floor work in general, as far as belly dancing is concerned, is not usually something that I would perform, nor would I have my students perform in public, but as an aside in the dance studio, it is great to learn and makes for a good workout and diversion from the usual dance routines. It is not Egyptian and should be made clear by the instructor, which I do not recall anything in this video explaining that. Overall, it offers something different for the gym, which is always a good thing, but in my humble opinion, I have seen much better videos. Is it a total waste of money? I don’t think so. I think it has something to offer those who are familiar with fitness instruction and the nature of the belly dance. If you are a complete novice at either, I would recommend finding a video that keeps safety in mind and explains things more thoroughly and allows more practice with each individual move. It’s not bad, but not really the best that I have seen, either.

The technique and moves demonstrated in this video were very good. She explained HOW to do the moves and there was a little animation to show you also. The explanations were very good, especially for beginners. She definitely did a good job of helping me understand how to get my body to do the moves, like which muscles were being used and what not.
The main problems I had with this video were that a) the instructor was ultra-annoying, b)the camerawork was poor and made the video look cheap, and c)the instructor moved way too fast. She was hard to keep up with on my first time doing the video because she didn’t do the moves slow enough to allow you to see them. Her voice was very nasal and irritating; I really didn’t like listening to her. She wasn’t very friendly either. She didn’t appear to enjoy what she was doing at all, which made it less fun for me. The camera was shakey a good bit of the time, but the lighting was good and allowed you to see the instructor pretty well. Lastly, she really did move too fast. For example, Level One of Instructional Bellydance by Jillina was a much better pace. This instructor moved so fast that you couldn’t see how the body’s parts were supposed to flow smoothly.
Despite those complaints, I still would recommend this video, but not by itself. This is a video that’s better for getting your technique downpat but it doesn’t do anything for making the workout enjoyable. I really like doing the stretches and practicing the technique with this video, but I always use another video after for a more fun dance workout.

First of all the setting is absolutely beautiful the music was very relaxing. It would have been cool if they would have provided a cd with it to practice the moves in a sequence you can create.I also loved Tanna’s outifts they were so cute.
When you first pop in the dvd there will be a break down of :about this program, tutorial, session 1, dance 1, session2, dance 2,session 3, dance 3 , followed by the performance and credits etc.
The about me is where Andy troy talks about the workout program nothing to even really glance at they could have left this out.
The tutorial goes over bellydance posture , then she starts strecthing which is weird because usually the tutorial goes over the moves that the instructor think needs more break down. Not strecthing which she does the whole video through. To me this was not appropriate for a tutorial.
The main problem I had with this dvd was things went to quickly there was not enough explanation in any of the things she covered, telling someone to do a back arch and backbend without a tutorial to cover proper posture is down right asking for a lawsuit, and injury to people who are not accustomed to doing that kind of exercise.
Secondly she moves to quickly in and out of moves without warning even though it is suppose to be a workout video the moves last for about a split second and you really don’t feel as if you are incorporating any of the moves right. And there is a count on there but if your bending over or doing full body waves then why would you be looking at the time.
Third you cannot skip the warm up you have to do each warm up with each exercise. There should have been one main warm up and you moved on.
I like this dvd because overall it was not boring it was soothing without being boring and that in itself is hard. The dvd makes me want to pop it in and go at it again. But the problem overide the goodness and beauty of it which is a shame this dvd had the ability to be one of the best, there are not many videos out there about floorwork. If more thought had been put into this It would have been wonderful, I’m not sure how much of a benefit it will be to others because the pace is so fast and you can’t drill because there is no instruction.
lolol GOOD LUCK with it if anything starts hurting I hope people will stop because some of those moves could cause some serious injury.

It’s not my favorite instructional floor work dvd, that would be IAMED’s, however, this one is A LOT cheaper, and very good as well.
