   I take a egyptian belly dance class and thought this DVD would be good between classes. For myself there was not enough time spent on individual move before working it into other moves.

   I’m a beginner and I have to say that Instant Belly dancer 1 and 2 are wonderful!!!! Neon, is an excellent teacher. She reviews the moves slowly before speeding up so that you can get a feel for the movement. The first dvd is an extensive review of the basics, while the second dvd is more complex. I will warn you that this dvd is not like Neon’s other dvd Luscious, instead it has more of a tutorial feel. There are reviews however after every four chapters, which puts all the steps together, but there isn’t a combined dance performance. Both dvds are long and cover a lot of different steps, so it should take you some time to learn the moves. At least it takes me time.

   A few extra bonuses
   
   Neon is very talented! She has great muscle control and you can actually see her stomach muscles moving which is helpful because it lets you know what you should be doing. Another plus is that she wears pants in both dvds so you can see her leg movements. The beat in the music is clear. I definitely recommend it. Another thing is that Neon has posted a three minute introduction on youtube to the dvd. Watching that helped me choose it.

   I was very disappointed with this DVD. Neon does not teach well, she doesn’t break things down enough before taking it to full speed. She also wears high heels which seems a little unusual to me as a belly dancer and it makes it hard to see her foot work. She doesn’t explain her movements that well and it’s hard to follow. She also throws her own little moves into it before teaching you the basics so it’s hard to follow her. I am a dancer and I learn pretty quickly, I’ve been belly dancing for about 5 months now and I know basics, but even though this is targeted towards beginners it’s more advanced, people who can pick it up immediately and do it to perfection without much instruction. She throws in extra moves that she likes without telling you, I guess it’s just her style but she is supposed to be teaching “basics” (beginners) and this is not geared towards beginners. I would never buy another Neon DVD again, just because of the way she teaches, I don’t like it. There are too many others belly dancers out there that are really good at taeching, breaking movements down and drilling them. I have a good library of belly dancing DVDs already, but I wish I could return this one. If I can’t return it then it goes in the trash. What a waste of money.

   I didn’t like this dvd very much. It’s not very well followable for absolute beginners and boring if you already had a few bellydance lessons. I found Neon’s voice a bit annoying… Maybe others can enjoy it but definitely not my favourite.
