This is my idea of what belly dance music should be. I have a number of belly dance music CD's and this is the first one I considered worthwhile. Very danceable and just great listening.

...but it is definitely not one of the Best Belly Dance CDs out there. There are better Classics and Modern Techno numbers to dance to ... but it'll do. I see it in a lot of stores though ... with a title "Best of the Belly Dance" & picture like that, I guess it gets picked up prett-y often.

This cd is wonderful if you are familiar with middle eastern music and dance. Beginning students will find it complex at first, but will gradually be able to adjust to it. There is something on this cd for all ears and legs. I love to play it at parties as it gives any room a seductive middle eastern sound.

This material is taken from a 6 CD set called BELLY DANCE (Music for an Oriental Dance vols 1-6) Voice of Lebanon (?) series and it's some of the absolute best old-school belly dance out on CD. Unfortunately it left out a LOT of the other killer dance pieces from the set, including Sahar, Joumana, Nado, Addi el Rabie, Kariat el Finjan...
Also unfortunately leaving behind some of the 'quirkier' tunes with more simple arrangements, but with the addition of mono synth patches and heavily reverbed guitars. Those that are familiar with these 70's and early 80's tunes (quirky or not)
will know what I am talking about, it's very similar to the classic "Spectacular Dances from the Middle East" LP (or CD) sound.

If you are not familiar with this era of music you may be pleasantly suprised at the organic sound of these recordings.
This sound seems to have been replaced mostly by synths and samples in the past 10 odd years. Some of which I like :P

This one isn't a bad intro to this genre/era of music, but if you want to dig a little, there's a lot more where this came from.
