Is belly dancing good for a pear-shaped body?
I’m very interested in taking belly dancing classes. However, I have a pear-shaped body with a defined waist and relatively large thighs and calves. Would belly dancing make my body even more pear-shaped? Or does it slim the legs?
Thanks ahead of time!

NO! DON’T!
Well belly dancing is good excise for your body. It will help you shape your belly. And when you have to stretch it will help you thighs and calves. If that doesn’t work just do what i use to do. Start jogging. Hope this helps you.
If you are asking whether or not belly dance will create a larger difference between your waist and hips, the answer is, “No.” Belly dance movements will not cause your thighs and calves to bulk up. Your muscles should be more toned if you are using them in the movements that you are practicing. Most belly dancers that I know incorporate some pilates and/or yoga into their workouts, in addition to aerobic exercises for increasing their stamina. Pilates strengthens your core muscles. It will help you tone your muscles, and improve your grace and balance, generally giving you a longer, leaner look.
If you don’t already have a class or teacher, you might want to start by checking with a gym or recreation center in your area. Sometimes they have dance classes, and those teachers may also do private lessons.

You can e-mail or call some of the dance instructors to find out what ages they teach in their classes, more about their background, their style of instruction, what they expect from students, and fees they charge for classes. If you don’t find a teacher listed for your area, you might want to contact one from the websites and find out if they may know of an instructor who may live closer to you. You might want to see if you can contact other students of theirs to get their opinions of the classes. A good teacher should encourage this.
I hope you find a teacher that you like. If one teacher’s style doesn’t suit your learning style, try another. I’ve known some dancers to take awhile finding a setting that worked for them.
Good luck.
There is no exercise that’s going to change the fact that you’re pear shaped.
However, take up belly dancing and you’ll stop worrying about it! And if you get as far as performing, you’ll find it easy to design costumes that flatter your shape (unlike other dance styles where the costumes just highlight your bad points).
Belly dance classes are so supportive and accepting of women of any shape, you’ll feel at home very quickly and learn to love your body. Plus, if you do lots of shimmies, your butt will firm up, too!
Belly dancing is good for bodies of all types and sizes. You should go for it, no matter what you look like.
This dance is an exercise and will change the look of your body a bit. You will have more defined curves, as the dance tones the muscles in the hips, butt, and waist.
As for the legs, the movements in belly dancing are mainly done with the legs. This will not “bulk up” your legs, but it will tone them quite a bit. Generally the fat in the thighs will slowly melt away and leave behind nice muscle.
I highly recommend belly dancing. For several reasons. It is so much fun, so beautiful, and a very good workout.
its a great workout
